Job market more balanced
THE number of jobs vacancies fell in the three months to February, but the labour market still tightened. The degree of tightening was small, though, suggesting the labour market is reaching a more balanced state. The Australian Bureau of Statistics’ three-monthly survey, released yesterday, showed the seasonally adjusted number of vacancies fell to 190,000 in February, from 193,300 in November, a drop of 1.7 per cent. The latest labour force figures showed the number of unemployed people fell to 604,800 in February, from 625,000 in November.
