Slade keeps his engine ticking over

Townsville Bulletin - - NEWS - MACKENZIE RAVN

RUNNING a half- marathon is challenging enough but for V8 Supercar driver Tim Slade, this weekend’s Gold Coast event is simply a warm- up for the Townsville 400.

The Supercheap Auto Racing Holden driver will put on his running shoes for the 22km event at this weekend’s Gold Coast Marathon, just a week out from the Townsville 400.

Slade, 29, and his girlfriend Dani Byrnes will both complete the half- marathon on Sunday and Slade said it was a great addition to his fitness regimen ahead of the next V8 Supercars event.

“It might seem simple to sit and drive around, but you use every part of your body,” he said.

“Your legs constantly move around with the pedals, you need a good core because there are lots of G forces with cornering, accelerating and braking, and your upper body wrestles the wheel and gears for hours.

“I did the Gold Coast halfmarathon a couple of years ago when it didn’t clash with the Castrol EDGE Townsville 400 and I did the Cairns halfironman last year and a few other little sprint and Olympic distance triathlons as well.”

PUMPED: Tim Slade and Dani Byrnes, ready for the Gold Coast Marathon.
