Trump dumped for anti- Mexican rant

Townsville Bulletin - - NEWS -

US TV network NBC has cut ties with presidential candidate and billionaire Donald Trump over controversial comments he made about Mexican migrants in announcing his campaign.

The network said it would no longer air the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants, which had been a joint venture between NBC and Mr Trump.

It also said it had begun exploring ways to air future seasons of the reality series Celebrity Apprentice without the colourful Mr Trump as host.

“At NBC, respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our values,” the network said in a statement.

Mr Trump attributed the decision to a clash in viewpoints, saying his views were strong and NBC’s “very weak”. He said he would not apologise for his statements because they “were correct”.

During his speech last month, he said Mexican immigrants were “bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime, they’re rapists and some, I assume, are good people”.
