Do not trivialise drought

Townsville Bulletin - - NEWS -

REFERENCE: Battling Farmers Ray of Hope ( TB June 27).

It comes as no surprise that Shaun Newman is whingeing about someone else in his letters to the editor.

This time it was drought- stricken farmers. Two things Shaun: Solar energy will not make it rain and the drought, which you seem to trivialise, continues; and for renewable energy to work it has to have a system into which it can feed.

Anna Bligh walked away from the Copperstring project, again punishing the north of the state, in 2011.

Instead of reeling off letters which bash people trying to battle drought, Shaun might spend some time checking facts.

People like Debra Gibson keep the primary industry producers’ challenges before us all.

While I do not agree with her on everything, I disagree with Shaun on most.

ROBERT BRYCE,

Kirwan.
