Cheers music to ears for Zahnee

Townsville Bulletin - - NEWS - JANE ARMITSTEAD

NORTH Queensland Cowboys cheerleader Zahnee Stout is used to drumming up spirit for others but now needs her own band of cheerleaders.

The 21- year- old was named in the top- eight NRL cheerleaders after making it to the final round of this year’s Big League Cheerleader of the Year competition.

The Cowboys Spirit cheerleader fought off tough competition in a Parramatta Eels contestant last month to make the national final.

“I didn’t expect to get this far. I think I was more nervous in round one but now I’m up against some stiff competition with girls from bigger cities,” she said.

The Charters Towers native joined the squad four years ago as a way to continue her love for dance while studying nursing at JCU. She hopes Townsville will get behind her to make it a memorable Cowboys season on and off the field.

“It would be awesome if a Cowboys cheerleader could win this competition and the Cowboys go into the grand final,” she said.

“It feels a bit strange having people cheer for me now and being on the other side but I’m hoping the smalltown support of Townsville will be an advantage.”

The winner will be announced in the coming months.

SPIRITED: Zahnee Stout is a national cheerleading finalist.
