Trans first at election
A TASMANIAN woman will attempt to become the nation’s first transsexual federal politician after being endorsed by the Greens. Transgender advocate Martine Delaney will stand for the suburban Hobart seat of Franklin, now held by Labor’s only Tasmanian federal Lower House representative, Julie Collins. Ms Delaney, who was born male and named Martin, has undergone reassignment surgery. She has spoken publicly about her life and is inspired to enter politics to campaign for a more equal society.
