City explosions follow suicide attack

Townsville Bulletin - - NEWS -

TWO blasts rocked the central Nigerian city of Jos yesterday in the latest unrest to hit the region.

Police say one explosion occurred at a local motor park and the other near a mosque, but could not say if there have been any casualties.

The blasts followed an earlier suicide attack at a church in the restive northeastern Nigerian city of Potiskum which killed five worshippers.

The bomber entered the Redeemed Christian Church of God on Sunday morning and detonated his explosives.

Police said four worshippers were killed instantly, while a fifth victim died in hospital.

“The victims included a woman and her two children, the pastor and another worshipper,” police said.

Witness Garba Manu said the bomber arrived on a motorised rickshaw, adding that “as soon as he entered a loud explosion ripped through the church”.

“I saw him walking in and he didn’t raise any suspicion.”

No one has taken responsibility but both Jos and Potiskum have been hit repeatedly by Boko Haram Islamists.
