Fireworks take life

Townsville Bulletin - - NEWS -

A MAN was killed after trying to launch a firework off the top of his head on American Independence Day. Devon Staples, 22, had been drinking and celebrating by setting off fireworks in the backyard of a friend’s home in the small Maine city of Calais. He placed a fireworks mortar tube on his head and set it off, killing him instantly. His death is the first fireworks fatality in Maine since the state legalised fireworks on January 1, 2012. In 2011, politicians voted to repeal a 1949 law banning fireworks.
