All religions should unite to help poor

-

‘ POPE proves worthy of saint’, ( Jenny Stirling, TB, July 4). Why, what has he done? According to Jenny he is the first Pope to take his name from St Francis of Assisi, patron of the poor.

So has he donated some of his personal millions to the poor or has he ordered George Pell to write out a cheque for a couple of million to the poor?

After all, the Pope is the chief honcho of a very massive business with countless billions of dollars at his disposal.

You can bet your life all he has done is prayed for them or asked the public to dig deep and give to a good cause.

Jenny tells us she was once told that she could not be a Christian and a Green because the two are not compatible.

Jenny, I was once told by a Catholic priest that I could not marry my favourite girl simply because her family were all Catholics and I did not believe in any of this codswallop called religion.

I very quickly told this fella where he can shove his religion but to keep the peace I said to him make me a Catholic to which he replied you will have to have lessons.

So to cut a long story short after three boring hours of Q and A this bloke told me he would not accept me in his church as he could not answer all of my questions.

But after all that I married my little Catholic girl and we have brought up over 51 years together.

Getting back to the Pope and all religions – the pretence of helping the poor and needy is a farce. If they had any intention of being a little bit honest for a change, every religion would get together, stop creating wars and simply give all their many billions of dollars to feed the world then I would go to church once a year maybe.

No that’s a lie – I could never do that.
