Souths making every post a winner in comeback
SOUTHS Rugby League club’s journey back to the top grade in Townsville has received a boost with some brand new goalposts at their Victoria Park home.
The club last played at Victoria Park in 2001 and the goalposts were taken down after they folded but the council granted the club the grounds last year and they are now desperately trying to get things up and running with what little resources they have.
Souths junior affiliate, United Suburbs, are hoping to play competitive fixtures on the field later this year.
United Suburbs president Tracey Ford hopes to see Souths return to their former glory.
“We have a bit more work to do with some topsoil to be put down and the lines are being marked very soon,” she said. “After that we hope to be ready to have our first official junior rugby league games on the grounds in August.”
Souths are hoping to rejoin the Townsville and District Rugby League completion next year, with Victoria Park as their home base.
DIVING BACK IN: United suburbs under 15 rugby league players Liam Prentice, 14, and Ryan Kinsey, 15, get a feel for the turf behind the new goalposts at Victoria Park.
