Victims of violence to get crisis shelter
A DEDICATED crisis shelter for victims of domestic and family violence will be established in Townsville.
The State Government has announced $ 8 million will be spent over two years to establish 72- hour crisis shelters in Brisbane and Townsville, with both centres to share in $ 11.9 million in funding to operate the shelters over the next four years.
The funding is part of a $ 31.3 million Budget initiative to tackle violence.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the Budget would also include funding to ensure access to effective legal services for victims of domestic and family violence, and enhance current death review processes to reduce future deaths.
Additional funding will also go towards establishing an independent Domestic and Family Violence Death Review and Advisory Board.
