Vic­tims of vi­o­lence to get cri­sis shel­ter

A DED­I­CATED cri­sis shel­ter for vic­tims of do­mes­tic and fam­ily vi­o­lence will be es­tab­lished in Townsville.

The State Gov­ern­ment has an­nounced $ 8 mil­lion will be spent over two years to es­tab­lish 72- hour cri­sis shel­ters in Bris­bane and Townsville, with both cen­tres to share in $ 11.9 mil­lion in fund­ing to op­er­ate the shel­ters over the next four years.

The fund­ing is part of a $ 31.3 mil­lion Bud­get ini­tia­tive to tackle vi­o­lence.

Premier An­nasta­cia Palaszczuk said the Bud­get would also in­clude fund­ing to en­sure ac­cess to ef­fec­tive le­gal ser­vices for vic­tims of do­mes­tic and fam­ily vi­o­lence, and en­hance cur­rent death re­view pro­cesses to re­duce fu­ture deaths.

Ad­di­tional fund­ing will also go to­wards es­tab­lish­ing an in­de­pen­dent Do­mes­tic and Fam­ily Vi­o­lence Death Re­view and Ad­vi­sory Board.
