Big night just what Irish doc ordered

Townsville Bulletin - - NEWS - SAMANTHA HEALY

A TOWNSVILLE pub will hand out “medical certificates” to fans following the State of Origin decider tonight.

“I’m sure the boss will understand,” the Irish Finnegan’s at Cannon Park Facebook page says, winky- face included.

Venue manager Phil Kiehne said the mock medical certificates would be signed by “Dr Phil”.

“This is the first time we have done it,” he said.

“Everyone loves the State of Origin but they never want to admit they are hung- over the next day.

“So, for a bit of a laugh, we will provide them with an ailment, signed off by ‘ Dr Phil’, with ‘ venue manager’ crossed out and replaced with ‘ medical practitioner’.”

The venue will also set up a “little Blues corner” and is encouraging fans to register their name and team prior to kick off to be in the running to win prizes.

Mr Kiehne believes Maroons fans will be the loudest in the crowd tonight, fuelled by a passion to see the shield returned to its rightful state.

Elsewhere, The Brewery has “Steak of Origin” – a $ 25 steak with a locally brewed beer for hungry and thirsty fans.

And the Mad Cow Tavern will have hot dogs, pizza, and has placed significant emphasis on its “cold beer”.

The Seaview Hotel duty manager Karen Dennis said the venue had been packed for the first two games and staff were expecting Game Three to be even bigger.

“Going by those first two games, tonight will be a big night,” she said.

“The big screen will be on and we get a good crowd of fans supporting both sides.”
