Award adds flavour to Salt

Townsville Bulletin - - NEWS - RACHEL RILEY

A TOWNSVILLE restaurant has had its culinary credentials bolstered after receiving one of the hospitality industry’s top accolades for its food and service.

A Touch of Salt on Ogden St has been awarded a coveted Chef’s Hat by the Queensland Good Food Guide for 2016.

It is only the second Chef’s Hat awarded to a Townsville outlet, with A Touch of Salt restaurateurs, brothers Mark and Michael Brine, also claiming the first for their previous establishment Saltcellar, which was on Palmer St.

Mark said his restaurant had been well supported by the local community y since itt opened in 2005 and the award was a reflection of his family and staff’s commitment to succeed.

“We are extremely happy because there is no higher accolade than a Chef’s Hat and it really is the pinnacle of our industry,” he said.

“For us, this is like winning a Michelin star … and the pressure is now on us to maintain standards, be consistent and continue to innovate.”

He said he hoped A Touch of Salt’s recognition would help put Townsville on the map as a fine dining destination to rival Noosa and Port Douglas.
