Seedy secrets set up a magic sequel

Townsville Bulletin - - LIFESTYLE -

MAGIC Mike might be based on Channing Tatum’s own experiences as male dancer, but the Hollywood superstar isn’t sure he’d recommend stripping as a career.

In Sydney for the premiere of sequel, Magic Mike XXL, Tatum – an exotic dancer in Florida in the 1990s – said there was a “dark” and “seedy” side to the industry despite the film’s glamorous appeal.

“I am not sure I could recommend it,” Tatum, 35, said yesterday.

“But it was a good time in my life.

“It was one complete year of down- the- rabbit- hole crazy.

“I am glad I moved on ... it definitely has some seedy, darker sides.”

Tatum, who plays Magic Mike, a genetically blessed furniture maker who returns to the world of stripping for one last hurrah, also revealed that during his days as a stripper that he “did a lot of bad things for one dollar bills”.

However, the Magic Mike star refused to elaborate on exactly what those “bad” things were.

“I’ve done some bad bad things that I can’t even possibly talk about during this interview,” Tatum said, to which his co- stars Joe Manganiello, interjected: “We want him to be able to run for office, so as Channing’s campaign manager, we won’t be answering that.”

Manganiello’s dirty little secret was that he practised his racy routines on his fiancee, Modern Family star Sofia Vergara.

When asked during aQ & A session after the Sydney premiere on Monday night, whether he had trialled the scene in front of the mirror, he replied: “No, not the mirror ... I practised for my fiancee.”

Manganiello, 38, elaborated saying: “You go into the pantry and find whatever snacks are in there, go into the refrigerator and grab the first beverage that catches your eye and go from there.”

While the True Blood star was more than happy for his famous fiancee to catch the film, Tatum was little less excited about his now twoyear- old daughter Everly watching it when she grows up.

“I can’t stop her from doing it ( watching the movie) and I can’t change the fact I actually was a stripper,” the married star said.

“Hopefully I will raise a nice beautiful little evolved girl that will get it ... she gets it.

“One it was a movie, and two it is supposed to be fun.”

LAST HURRAH: Matt Bomer as Ken, and Channing Tatum as Mike in
