Street parade fuels buzz ahead of thrills this weekend
V8 SUPERCARS fever has officially struck Townsville.
Thousands of revheads lined the streets yesterday to welcome their favourite drivers ahead of this weekend’s event.
The V8 Supercars Transporter Parade kicked off the official countdown to the Castrol EDGE Townsville 400, which will take over Reid Park from tomorrow.
Fans of all ages lined the streets between the Bohle and the city to welcome the drivers to Townsville with an 18- truck convoy. Many fans travelled days to attend the event, which has grown in popularity since its launch seven years ago.
For Alpha’s Lachlan Goodwin, 9, yesterday’s parade marked a schoolholiday highlight as he eagerly awaited the arrival of the Red Bull team and Lightning McQueen.
“I’ve never seen one of these parades before,” he said. “I like that they ( V8 Supercars) go fast ( and) would like to be a driver myself.”
Revheads Paul and Robyn Braden were first- timers, travelling from New Zealand to watch the parade and racing on the weekend.
“We’ve been to Bathurst and the Gold Coast for the V8s in the past but this is our first time in Townsville,” Mr Braden said. “I think the parade is great for the community.”
