Sticky Can­tonese roast chicken A nice lit­tle chardon­nay that shines a light on the Coon­awarra’s ca­pac­ity to turn it on, here with del­i­cately sweet white stone fruits with a dash of trop­i­cal and flo­ral lift. In the­ory it should be richer with such ripe flavours but there’s a re­fresh­ing un­der­car­riage of nat­u­ral acid­ity that off­sets the palate and ex­presses a sweeter le­mon sher­bet note. Roast chicken with or­ange and ginger The term “Old School” gives us some idea where this is headed — again with fuller fruits and a note of the toasty but­ter and hon­ey­caramel that can oc­cur af­ter oak mat­u­ra­tion if the grapes reach a cer­tain ripeness. Yet this is made com­pas­sion­ately with a no- frills kind of ap­proach, mak­ing it mouth­fill­ing and gen­er­ous.
