Weather gives visitors a warm welcome

Townsville Bulletin - - NEWS - SAMANTHA HEALY

SOUTHERN states may expect teethchattering temperatures over coming days but Townsville looks set to shine on its biggest weekend of the year.

Daytime temperatures are expected to reach 26C throughout the Townsville 400 weekend, with just the chance of the odd shower.

Down south is a different story with a cold air mass, which formed over Antarctica, expected to bring freezing conditions and snow to Tasmania, Victoria and NSW.

Weather bureau forecaster Mario Torrisi said Townsville would feel like a warm summer’s day to southerners.

“For some locals, 26C might feel a bit chilly, especially if we get the winds on Sunday, as predicted,” he said. “But for people coming from Melbourne, by their weather standards, that’s a pleasant weekend.”

He said temperatures would drop at the start of the working week.

“We are expecting 11C on Monday morning and 10C on Tuesday morning,” he said. “But the wind chill will be a factor as it will feel colder.”
