Mostert raring to get back on street

Townsville Bulletin - - SPORT - ROHAN O’NEIL

NO driver will take better form into the Townsville 400 than Prodrive Racing Australia rising star Chaz Mostert.

The 25- year- old is having his best year to date in V8 Supercars and last year’s Bathurst 1000 winner heads into this round on the back of a first, second and third at the competition’s last meet in Darwin.

With that stellar form behind him and a return to the street circuit format that has worked well for him this year, the Pepsi Max Crew star is looking to improve on his fourth place standing in the drivers championship.

“It’s pretty exciting to have a good couple of rounds under our belt and the car is working really well so it will be interesting to see how it works on a street circuit,” he said.

“The opening street circuit was Adelaide and we had a pretty good weekend there so it’s good to come back to another street circuit and see how we roll out here.”

Mostert has amassed 991 points across the first five rounds, 174 points behind stablemate and championship leader Mark Winterbottom.

Winterbottom wasn’t getting carried away with the numbers and said he just wanted to keep on performing the way he has been.

“It’s not so much pressure, it’s actually good to be in a position where you are in front,” he said. “We are in a good spot but we were in this same position last year and the wheels fell. So we need to keep marching on and hopefully Townsville is a good one for us.”
