Long drive from snow to hot action
WHEN the Every family left home to attend the Townsville 400, it was snowing in their backyard.
The dedicated V8 fans travelled all the way from Glen Innes in northern New South Wales to join in on the action.
“This is the first time we’ve been to the Townsville V8s and it’s unbelievable,” Craig Every said.
“It's so great to be here. It was snowing ( at home) so it’s nice to be in Townsville in this weather.”
Megan and Peter Haines made the 14- hour drive from Gatton to Townsville with their kids Riley, 8, and Brady, 6.
“My husband is a huge V8 fan,” Mrs Haines said.
“This is our first time in Townsville so we’re pretty excited but we go to the Gold Coast and we’ve been to Bathurst and Phillip Island.”
The Kiely and Piggott families came from Emerald for the action, arriving on Monday to enjoy some time in Townsville before the busy weekend.
Carly Kiely said they weren’t able to go the year that her son Griffyn, 5, was born, but he had been every year since his first birthday.
“He has his birthday here every year,” she said.
“It’s perfect for school holidays.”
Ms Kiely said she had been very excited when the Townsville 400 first started.
“I can remember sitting on the phone hitting redial because that was the only way we could get tickets,” she said.
“We’ve had the same seats the whole seven years.”
YOUNG FANS: Sam Piggott, 7, Griffyn Kiely, 5, and Amelia Piggott, 7, are visiting from Emerald.
