Firies gear up to aid Canada

MORE than 100 Aus­tralian fire­fight­ers and emer­gency ser­vice work­ers will help bat­tle out of con­trol wild­fires threat­en­ing com­mu­ni­ties across western Canada.

The coun­try is fac­ing some of its worst fires in years, with more than 13,000 peo­ple forced to leave their homes and about 1400 sol­diers de­ployed to help fight the flames across Al­berta and Saskatchewan.

This week 95 Aus­tralians will join up with seven of­fi­cers al­ready in Van­cou­ver be­fore head­ing to key af­fected ar­eas.
