Trad’s plan a crazy cost

Townsville Bulletin - - OPINION -

JUST when we thought that Kevin 07, the bat man from hell, was dead and gone, up pops his female equivalent from the new Labor Government.

Someone named Jackie Trad, a virtual unknown to most Queenslanders, with a proposal to spend $ 1.9 billion on a makeover for the Townsville CBD.

“If” – and that is a very big “if” – the people of Townsville or for that matter the people of Queensland or even Australia could afford that amount of money, it certainly would not be on any sane person’s priority list as a place of suitable investment.

Obviously, the Labor Party is desperate to shore up the support of local members.

During my 30 years in Townsville, the CBD has had at least three very expensive makeovers and remains a white elephant. This will be a big vote loser for the Labor Party.

This type of crazy expenditure of public money must cease, and businesses should look to their own avenues for investment.
