Hinchinbrook hunt goes on

Townsville Bulletin - - NEWS -

HOPES of finding a woman who fell overboard from the houseboat she was on with her husband in Missionary Bay on Sunday are diminishing.

The search will enter its fourth day today, as police continue to scour waters north of Hinchinbrook Island, where the 52- year- old Melbourne woman was reported missing.

Innisfail Police Inspector Brian Cannon said the extensive search had involved water police, specialist divers, coast guard, a search and rescue management co- ordinator ( SARMAC) and wildlife officers.

“Wildlife officers have assisted in relation to the area – it’s open waters and mangrove country adjoining the Hinchinbrook Island area … at this stage we’ve utilised the police divers to assist with their sonar capabilities,” he said.

“SARMAC are the controller and they will take advice in relation to survivability, conditions, resources and what they’ve already done and will make a decision into the continuation of the search soon.”
