Swell time gone with the wind

SOUTH­ERN Queens­land is fac­ing strong winds and a chance of snow or sleet in the bor­der high coun­try tonight and early to­mor­row.

Pound­ing seas are also ex­pected as an east coast low builds off south­ern NSW.

Bris­bane can ex­pect winds of 45km/ h to­mor­row, with some gusts much stronger.

Weather bureau fore­caster Diana Eadie said a high of 17C was forecast for to­mor­row, com­pared to the July av­er­age max­i­mum of 20.4C.

“We ex­pect to is­sue a strong wind warn­ing for Bris­bane,’’ she said. “Fri­day morn­ing will be cold, es­pe­cially in Bris­bane be­cause of strong ( west­erly) winds push­ing through again.’’

Clean and rel­a­tively calm con­di­tions en­joyed by surfer El­lie- Jean Cof­fey yesterday ( right) were to be re­placed with a swell of 2- 3m on the Gold Coast and 1.5- 2.5m on the Sun­shine Coast.
