Hack­ett back in the big time

EX­ACTLY 10 years af­ter he last won a world ti­tle, Grant Hack­ett will leave for Rus­sia to­mor­row con­fi­dent he can cap his stun­ning come­back by stand­ing on the world cham­pi­onships podium next month in Kazan. The for­mer dis­tance king yesterday an­nounced a new spon­sor­ship deal with Speedo and con­firmed he would pur­sue a fourth Olympic Games in Rio next year at the age of 36. Hack­ett’s im­me­di­ate fo­cus is help­ing to lead the Aus­tralian 4x200m freestyle re­lay team in Kazan. The win­ner of Olympic gold over 1500 me­tres in 2000 and 2004 last stood on a world ti­tles podium in Mon­treal a decade ago.
