Saxon makes name for himself with jellyfish
A SCHOOLBOY who stumbled across a new species of box jellyfish in a Gold Coast canal has been rewarded for his curiosity, with scientists naming the tiny- tentacled creature in his honour.
Saxon Thomas was aged nine when he discovered the unusual looking jellyfish while fishing with two friends in March, 2013. He carefully put the tiny creature in a jar and later showed his prized catch to his father, who sent it to the Queensland Museum where it was identified as a new species. The jellyfish has been called chiropsella saxoni.
