Locals must have priority in job market
I WAS watching the news on July 16 concerning the free trade agreements and, having spoken to our local political reps, I gained a better understanding of issues surrounding the employment of both local and overseas workers.
But I could not get over a mango producer who seemed to believe it would mean cheap overseas workers.
I have brought up the use of 457 visas before and in this time of high unemployment this is one area that needs to be tightened up. Employ Australians first even if that means you have to train people.
I also believe it is time governments, employers and unions showed leadership and worked out a solution to this problem as I can see no future for our children if we continue to carry on this same path.
