Tonight is the big one
TONIGHT’S game is a massive one for us. It’s our fiercest rivals – Cairns ( or FNQFC Heat).
Whoever wins not only gets the three points, but also keeps the Frank Farina Cup for another 12 months – awarded to the winner of the North Queensland v Far North Queensland derby, named after northern Queensland’s most successful football export.
Importantly, if we win, we go six points ahead. If FNQ win, they are level with us. We are in 5th place on 24 points on the competition ladder and with one game in hand. But there’s another incentive to win, as it would also be the first time that we have won three consecutive games.
No need for a motivational talk from me tonight!
Last week’s win against last- placed SWQ Thunder was a good result but there is plenty of room for improvement. There were too many occasions when we turned the ball over under no pressure. All of their chances came from us.
Having said that, I was also pleased with some good individual performances.
Jarrod Lee scored the goal of the game when he beat four players, turned in the box and smashed the ball into the bottom corner. Corey Waples was a standout for the 90 minutes, scoring an individual goal with a run from the halfway line.
Please help us get that sixpoint break by coming along to Brolga Park tonight to be our 12th man.
