Redskins on warpath for showdown
THEY have had their mid- season troubles, but the Ross River Redskins are determined to get down to business with finals rugby on the horizon.
Last year’s Townsville and District Rugby Union grand finalists clash with their 2014 victors Brothers at Ignatius Park College today, a clash that Redskins coach Gary Lewis ranks as one of the toughest assignments in local senior rugby.
Ross River just got over the line against Western Suburbs last weekend with a 35- 26 win, and Brothers broke the unbeaten run of Teachers West with a five- point victory in their most recent clash.
Making Ross River’s time harder in recent weeks – which included a 36- 10 defeat to Teachers West – was the loss of a handful of first- choice players to injury, including representative personnel Leo Pakome, Tevita Mauluulu and Rupeni Seru.
They will all be drip- fed back into action this weekend through lower- grade games, but are set to make their firstdivision comebacks the following round.

to the team in a week or two,” Lewis said.
“We’ve suffered the loss of some key players over the last few weeks and it’s tested our depth, but I’ve been impressed with how we’ve responded.”
Ross River sit third on the TDRU ladder behind Teachers and second- placed Brothers, who are certainties to play finals.
