THE Townsville Flames kept their playoffs dreams alive last night with a comprehensive 89- 68 victory over the visiting Cairns Dolphins.

Less than a week after being thumped by the Dolphins by 30 points in Cairns, the Flames responded, storming home to a 21- point win on the back of a massive second half.

Townsville Fire star Mia Murray starred for the Flames with 28 points and 11 rebounds and Ainsley Walsh added 21 points while Cairns forward Rachel Pryor was outstanding in a beaten team with 23 points, 18 boards and six assists.

The Flames enjoyed the better start and led by as many as 10 points in the first period before a late charge from the Dolphins saw them cut the lead to just two at the first break. The game remained tight in the second term but the home side were able to stretch their advantage to eight heading into the half, thanks to 13 first- half points from Murray and 10 from Ainsley Walsh – a perfect five for five from the field. Townsville held off one final Cairns run before a final-term blitz.

The Townsville men’s teams were also winners on the night, keeping faint playoff hopes alive with a gritty 78- 60 victory over the Dolphins.

Mitch Norton led the Heat with 24 points and eight assists as they claimed a home win.
