Tough to take on long- hair Thor role

- LIAM BUTTERWORTH

COWBOYS backrower Gavin Cooper is ready to pick up the hammer where Ashton Sims left off.

Cooper took on the role of Thor this year as he modelled the Cowboys’ Marvel Superhero jersey for 2015, which North Queensland will wear against Canberra Raiders wearing the Hulk outfit in Townsville on August 1. Sims caused a splash with his long hair and ferocious attitude as he took on the role of the Norse god last year and even had Gold Coast skipper Nate Miles calling him “scary” as he was playing with a “hammer”.

The Cowboys are one of seven teams which will wear Marvel- themed jerseys for clashes in Round 21. Cooper recently took some time out to go to Sydney and model the new jerseys.

“It was always going to be a tough gig backing it up after Ashton because he really looks like Thor with the big hair and stuff,” Cooper said.

“If only we could have hired Ashton back to be Thor again, it would have been good.

“It was a lot of fun going down there and doing photos for it.

“I know our colours sort of match the Thor jersey and I’m really a bit jealous of Newcastle getting to be Spider- Man.

“I thought I was Spider-Man as a kid and just like last year, it will be good to see all the teams going around.”

Superheroes Spider- Man ( Knights), Captain America ( Roosters), Iron Man ( Dragons), Hulk ( Raiders), Daredevil ( Manly) and War Machine ( Wests Tigers) will also feature in the round.

All jerseys are available now for purchase at club shops, NRLshop.com and ISCSport.com
