Royle sets good pace

Townsville Bulletin - - SPORT -

AUSTRALIAN Aaron Royle has produced his best result in 16 months on a day of records at the Hamburg leg of the World Triathlon Series.

Royle’s fifth behind upset winner, Frenchman Vincent Luis, was his best performance since his breakthrough podium in Auckland last year and a step towards Australia qualifying three men for the startline at next year’s Olympic Games.

The talking points, however, were the 11th consecutive WTS victory of Wollongong- based American Gwen Jorgensen and the sizzling run leg from Spain’s Mario Mola.

Mola’s 13 min 55 sec 5km run split was the fastest in WTS history.

Gillian Backhouse ( 12th) and Ashleigh Gentle ( 14th) were the best performed Australian women.
