THE Bendigo Bank Shield has returned to North Queensland after the region’s top female bowlers took out the three- day carnival late last week.

The Suburban Bowls Club in Townsville played host to the annual event, which saw five representative teams duke it out over three days.

There was no stopping the North Queensland District Ladies Bowls Association ( NQDLBA) as they won seven of their eight games to claim bragging rights for the next year.

NQDLBA vice- president Carolyn Huddy said it was a great achievement from all the women as they improved on last year’s second place to lift the trophy for the first time in three years.

“We played eight games and only lost one and the girls all bowled terrific right throughout the carnival,” she said.

“It’s the most prestigious carnival for the year and our North Queensland girls came from Bowen, Ingham, Townsville and Ayr.”

The victory continued the good form of the team from earlier this year, with the North Queensland side finishing third in division two at the state districts championships in Brisbane.
