FG- X Falcons fly, but it’s fair

Townsville Bulletin - - SPORT -

V8 Supercars has dismissed pitlane speculation Ford’s Prodrive Racing Australia might be gaining an unfair aerodynamic edge on its rivals.

Concerns over the team’s new FGX Falcons were aired publicly during the Townsville 400 event earlier this month, where Prodrive’s Mark Winterbottom extended his championship lead with a clean sweep of race wins.

Holden Racing Team owner Ryan Walkinshaw quipped during that weekend’s television coverage that he was “a big fan of their aero package, not so much them as a team” when asked about Prodrive’s recent domination.

But V8 Supercars’ technical department has reiterated that aerodynamic parity had been attained for every car in the field.

“The aero figures achieved in January have been rechecked, and the V8SC Technical Department are satisfied that there is no aerodynamic advantage or disadvantage,” the body said in a letter to all teams.
