TOWNSVILLE Fire team­mates Suzy Batkovic and Mi­caela Cocks have been called up for train­ing camps with their re­spec­tive na­tional teams ahead of next month’s Aus­tralia/ New Zealand se­ries.

Batkovic was named in a strong 16- player squad for a three- game home se­ries against the Ja­panese na­tional team which will serve as a fi­nal se­lec­tion trial be­fore the Olympic qual­i­fiers against New Zealand be­gin on Au­gust 15.

Af­ter a brief break from the rep­re­sen­ta­tive scene, Batkovic made her­self avail­able for se­lec­tion this year and the vet­eran cen­tre im­pressed in the Opals re­cent tour of Europe.

Her team­mate and fel­low 2014/ 15 Women’s Na­tional Bas­ket­ball League cham­pion Mi­caela Cocks is one of the more ex­pe­ri­enced cam­paign­ers named in coach Kennedy Kereama’s 14woman Tall Ferns squad.

The 2008 Olympian and her Kiwi team­mates will travel to Asia for an in­vi­ta­tional tour­na­ment be­fore three warm- up games in New Zealand ahead of their home- and- away se­ries against the Opals.

Townsville Crocodiles player Leon Henry is also in con­sid­er­a­tion for se­lec­tion for the New Zealand team af­ter he was one of 14 play­ers se­lected for the Tall Blacks cur­rent tour of Europe and Asia.
