Man faces date rape allegation

A COURT has been told a man raped a woman with his hand after they met through a dating website.

Aaron David Clarke is accused of raping a woman at his Kirwan home on October 25, 2014, after meeting her on the dating website Plenty Of Fish.

Crown prosecutor Skye Jerome told a Supreme Court trial yesterday that Clarke raped the woman with his hand after the pair had consensual sex.

“Casual sex does not mean the female can’t withdraw her consent,” she said. “She asks him to stop because it’s hurting and he doesn’t.”

Ms Jerome told the court that, during the attack, the woman yelled out in pain and asked Clarke to stop before shoving his shoulder, which put an end to the incident.

The court was told the woman quickly left before calling her friend in tears and driving herself to hospital.

The woman suffered injuries to her genitalia and was given relief for pain to her vagina and lower abdomen.

After the woman notified police, Clarke’s home was declared a crime scene and police found him in his boxer shorts.

Defence barrister Greg Lynham said events according to the victim were disputed and all sexual acts that night were consensual.

Ms Jerome told the jury the woman was a reliable witness and urged them to accept her version of events.

“She expected to go to that man’s house to have casual, consensual sex but that’s not how it played out,” she said.

“How do you explain the significant injuries sustained to the vagina?

“She had endured a lengthy period of pain afterwards.

“She went there for casual, consensual sex but she was raped.”

The jury is expected to hand down a verdict this morning.
