Maggot found in Aldi jar

Townsville Bulletin - - NEWS -

A MELBOURNE shopper has discovered a maggot in another Aldi product — posing questions over the operation of the lowcost supermarket giant.

The discovery comes just four months after it was reported several Australian customers had found pieces of metal, maggots and even fingernails in products bought at the German- owned stores.

Theone Cheong, 65, who lives in Brighton, returned to complain at the new Aldi store in Cheltenham on Sunday with a jar of red cabbage and apple pieces — with a live maggot still wriggling at the top. Mrs Cheong, who had bought the jar on Saturday, said it was the second time she found maggots in products from the store.

The jar of red cabbage was made by Dutch company Hak and imported to Australia for Aldi where the supermarket is rapidly growing in popularity.

A spokesperson for Aldi said the company had organised a shipment of the red cabbage product for testing.
