Townsville Bulletin - - FRONT PAGE -

THERE is some “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” news for fans of one of the world’s timeless tales.

The Townsville Choral Society will present Mary Pop

pins, the Broadway musical, to local audiences next month.

Peggy Pulvirenti said the show was an “ambitious one” for the choral society.

“Mary is going to fly and there are lots of other surprises,” she said. “It will be one of our biggest stage shows and we will be the first to bring it to North Queensland.”

The major advertising push has yet to start but about 3000 tickets to the show have already been sold.

Ms Pulvirenti said the show would feature local actors with two sets of children rotating the leads. “The sets are enormous and special,” she said. There are 60 or 70 people in the ensemble alone.”

The audience will hear some of the old favourites from the classic tale including Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, Chim Chimeny, Feed the Birds,

and A Spoonful of Sugar.

Tickets cost $ 55 for adults, $ 50 concession, $ 25 for school students/ children and $ 35 for tertiary students. A family pass for two adults and two children costs $ 140. The show runs from August 26 until September 2 at the Townsville Civic Theatre.

CHRIS Davis and his merry band of chimney sweeps go through their paces ahead of Townsville Choral Society’s production of Mary Poppins, The Broadway Musical, which opens next month at Townsville Civic Theatre. Around 3000 tickets have already been sold.
