Bishop wants entitlements ‘ clarity’

Townsville Bulletin - - NEWS -

SPEAKER Bronwyn Bishop has called for greater clarity on expense rules after being criticised for allegedly claiming taxpayer funds during a trip that took in the wedding of former Liberal MP Sophie Mirabella.

A spokesman said there should be discussion about the future of entitlements after reports she has not paid back $ 600 claimed for flights to three cities including Albury, from where she travelled to Ms Mirabella’s wedding in nearby Wangaratta.

“If we want to have a discussion around how the rules should be changed and how they should work we’d support that,” Mrs Bishop’s spokesman said. “The biggest issue is around the clarity of the rules.”

Prime Minister Tony Abbott put Mrs Bishop on “probation” this week after revelations about her $ 811,857 expense bill, which includes flights and lavish limo trips in Europe. There has also been a $ 5000 helicopter flight from Melbourne to Geelong.
