Newborn’s throat slit
THE mother of a six- week- old girl was last night being interviewed by the homicide squad following reports she had slit her baby’s throat at their home in suburban Newcastle.
Police and ambulance officers found the infant dead when they arrived at the property in Wallsend shortly after 9am yesterday after receiving a call for help from another family member inside.
Shortly after, a group of distraught friends and relatives arrived at the home to news the newborn infant had died.
Several women in the group from the Sudanese community sat weeping in a park adjacent to the home, while a man comforted a young girl outside the rental property.
Newcastle police said the baby’s 26- year- old mother had been arrested and was being interviewed by detectives.
