Blu­men­thal gives chef Bil­lie her just desserts

BAL­LINA restau­rant man­ager Bil­lie McKay was last night crowned this year’s Mas­terChef and in the process earned a new job work­ing for top chef He­ston Blu­men­thal.

In a nail­bit­ing Chan­nel 10 TV fi­nale which saw Queens­land ri­val Ge­or­gia Barnes win two out of the three chal­lenges, McKay came from four points be­hind in the fi­nal round to per­fectly ex­e­cute a mon­u­men­tal dessert from Blu­men­thal, who was so im­pressed he hired her on the spot for his famed UK restau­rant, The Fat Duck.

“I don’t know what is bet­ter, win­ning Mas­terChef or this job, it’s such a cool thing to come out of it,” McKay, 23, said.

To win the cook­ing re­al­ity se­ries, the fi­nal chal­lenge last night in­volved cook­ing a 55step, 17- el­e­ment dessert.

McKay won a cash prize of $ 250,000, an Al­pha Romeo and a monthly col­umn with De­li­cious mag­a­zine.
