THIS year is shaping up as a great year for entertainment with plenty happening for everyone.
The Townsville Choral Society has been working hard to bring to life the great Broadway musical Mary Poppins, with a talented cast of 60.
Rehearsals are well under way with great dance routines and toe tapping songs including Chim Chimney, Feed the Birds, Spoonful of Sugar, Let’s Go Fly A Kite and not forgetting Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.
I called in to see how it is all going and the sets and costumes are just great. The special effects which are synonymous with the show are outstanding and surprising, to say the least. Bookings are open and tickets are moving fast. There are two wonderful surprises in this show which have never been seen before at the Civic. Mary Poppins is on at the Civic Theatre for 10 performances from August 26 to September 3.
If you are thinking of travelling to Sydney in September there are two great musicals worth seeing including Anything Goes, with Todd McKenney and Caroline O’Connor at the Sydney Opera House, and a musical adaptation of Matilda at the Lyric Theatre, which is the one everyone is raving about but both are work a look.
Auditions will begin for Annie in Townsville later this year and in October Saturday Night Fever will come to Townsville.
The Australian Festival of Chamber Music starts this Friday to August 8, with 30 concerts and special events at various locations and 40 musicians visiting from around the world to perform in Townsville.
There is everything from romantic sunset concerts and a free concert in Queens Gardens, two fun- filled concert crawls, an entertaining family concert. Check with the Civic Theatre for more information on the line up.
