Chasers in a test for shot at cup
TONIGHT at the Townsville Showgrounds there is a full 10race card, with the one to watch the Wee Win Kennels 4/ 5th Grade over 498m.
This race will be carefully watched as trainers continue to get their chasers ready for the Townsville Cup in three weeks.
Knights Templar for trainer Rhonda Goodwin last week upset the punters, winning over this distance against a similar opposition as an $ 8 chance, and after being drawn the rails box this week could go back- to- back. But the Ipswich visitor won’t have it his own way with quality chasers Poised to Pounce, Blue Houdini and Listen all given chances.
The result of this race could go a long way in determining what chasers will front in cup heats.
Visiting trainer Norm Bradford makes another appearance again with four runners. His best hope is Embellish from box two in Race 5.
The in- form Embellish last week won in the smart time of 22.17s on a slow track and if she jumps well again will be hard to beat. Finishing in the placings six of her past nine outings, the lightly raced dog out of Mogambo looks a good chance on the card.
But the two wide- boxed chasers in Moo Moo ( box 7) and Eunice Lillian ( eight) appear to be the greatest threats to Bradford’s chaser and if either lands on the lure early will be very hard to chase down.
Heats of the National Sprint and Distance races have been held across the country in recent weeks, with the final to be held at Wentworth Park in late August.
The Townsville Cup quickly approaches. All events and news can all be found via the Townsville Greyhound Club’s Facebook or internet pages.
