EVERYONE is buzzing at Umbrella Studios due to an art exhibition with a sweet twist.
The art gallery is showcasing an exhibition by local artist Honey Atkinson, which displays the life and systems of the humble honeybee.
Life of a Honeybee uses photography and 3D objects to give viewers a glimpse into the world of the industrious insect.
Ms Atkinson’s own product Honey by Honey will also be one of several local honeys available to sample.
The artist said she wanted to display the workings of the honey bee after watching her own hives in action.
“I have had bee hives for two years and had been checking the hives every few days and just became spellbound by the shape within the hive … and it seemed like a great visual concept,” she said.
“And the fact the subjects were in my own backyard made it even more special,” she said.
Creating the pieces involved wearing a special suit to get close to the bees. The process spurred Ms Atkinson to research her subjects and build an understanding of the plight facing the honeybee.
“People become aware of the threats facing the bee and the overall decline in honey production worldwide as a result of disease and pesticides,” she said. “It‘ s been an educational experience.”
The exhibition runs until August 9.
