Put an end to shaming

Townsville Bulletin - - OPINION -

I BECAME quite annoyed reading Lydia Kellner’s article in Saturday’s Bulletin. Is the Veterans Affairs Department ashamed of its clients? Is mental health a taboo subject?

It seems that anyone who has, or admits to having, a mental health problem is deemed to be “letting the side down” and does not deserve to be recognised as a member of the defence forces, let alone helped! Good luck to Angus Sim and his Veterans Report Card survey.

Hopefully it may go some way towards changing entrenched opinions and behaviours about sufferers of PTSD. It’s about time.

A. SUMMERS,

Currajong.
