Sharp rise in tourism
AUSTRALIA has enjoyed a surge in international visitor numbers, with Tasmania leading the nation. International visitor numbers were up 8 per cent across the country to 6.5 million in the 12 months to March, figures released by the federal government show. And tourists spent more than $ 32 billion, a new record and a 10 per cent increase on the previous year. The Austrade data, released yesterday, shows an increase in visitors from China, the US, New Zealand, Singapore and India. Tasmania recorded a 28 per cent increase in international visitors.
