Gallen backs a 2017 double
CRONULLA captain Paul Gallen has revealed next year may not necessarily be his last, with an option in his new contract to play on in 2017 for his 16th straight NRL season.
And the notion of one of the Sharks’ most capped players continuing on beyond the end of next year has a touch of romance to it with Cronulla also preparing to celebrate the club’s greatest milestone in 2017 – their 50th anniversary.
Adorned with lavish praise by Cronulla chief executive Lyall Gorman as an “icon” and club “immortal” yesterday, Gallen announced he had signed a four- year playing and postfootball contract, which includes a one year deal to play with the Sharks in 2016 and three years post- football working in an ambassador role.
The structure of the deal provides an option to extend his career beyond next season.
