LONGHORN’S CRUEL END

Townsville Bulletin - - NEWS - IVY JAMES

A PET Texas longhorn has been shot dead on a property in Sellheim.

Brian and Aileen Falvey woke on Tuesday morning to discover one of their two longhorn bullocks was dead in its paddock with a bullet wound to its head.

The domesticated four- year- old bullock, Two Stroke Lawn Mower, was found by Brian’s neighbour about 8am.

Mr Falvey said he was shocked by the senseless killing.

“In the morning, I was yelling out to them to come up for a feed, but they didn’t come,” he said.

“My neighbour came over and he said one of my bullocks was lying dead by the fence.

“I went across the road to talk to my other neighbour to see if she heard anything.

“She told me at about 10.30pm ( Monday night), her dogs were really going off and then she heard a shot and that was it.”

The couple bought the two longhorns in 2012 for $ 1800 from Mick and Linda Bethel, owners of Texas Longhorn Safaris and Wagon Tours in Charters Towers.

The retired butcher and his wife believe their pet longhorn was shot in a failed attempt to get its valuable horns.

“Maybe they’re after horns. They get good money for them
