Townsville Bulletin - - NEWS - CHRISTIE ANDERSON

A MAN was found asleep in his underwear in the bed of a woman he was infatuated with, a court has heard.

Michael John Blanch, 54, was fined $ 500 for unlawful stalking in Townsville Magistrates Court yesterday.

Police Prosecutor Senior Constable Rachel Waters said the woman found Blanch asleep in her bed at her Julia Creek home on June 3.

“The complainant has gone into the bedroom and found the person sleeping in her room,” she said.

“When police arrived she was standing outside and visibly distressed.”

Police removed the blanket from the man and discovered he was only wearing his underwear.

The court heard it followed an earlier incident on June 1 when Blanch June 2.

She had assumed he must have had car troubles and was seeking help until he told her he was just saying hello.

The pair were acquaintances and had mutual friends but the woman told police she didn’t know the man well.

Defence solicitor Trevor Baldock said his client had no criminal history and had developed an infatuation with the woman.

He said Blanch had now relocated to Townsville and was planning on seeing a psychiatrist as he was suffering from blackouts.

Magistrate Peter Smid said the stalking was “sad” and “pathetic”.

He also imposed a two- year restraining order banning Blanch from having any contact with the woman. the woman found inside her home on
