Officers’ golf day for Daniel in full swing
TOWNSVILLE police will be teeing off today in support of the Daniel Morcombe Foundation, hoping to raise more than $ 5000 for the child safety campaigners.
The charity golf day at Rowes Bay doubles as a child safety awareness day and fundraiser.
Twenty- one teams have registered, with police saying locals are really getting behind the day, including a large number of ADF members.
Northern Region Acting Commissioner Paul Taylor said the golf day came as a timely reminder of child safety after two attempted abductions in the past week.
“Not only is it a great way to raise money, it is also a great opportunity for police to meet with the community for a great cause,” Mr Taylor said. “It also helps to bring a level of awareness to the issues to make children safer. The more we can inform kids and parents about safety and the community to be aware of the risks are out there, the more we can hope to prevent it from occurring. Our staff are really passionate about the cause and really do a lot of work behind the scenes to support the charity but really focus on what the charity is all about.”
