Crisafulli coy on political plans

- ROANNE BOLDERY

FORMER Mundingburra MP David Crisafulli has refused to reveal whether he will run in one of two new seats created on the Gold Coast.

Two new seats to be created under Queensland Redistribution Commission recommendations, Bonney and Theodore, border his Hope Island neighbourhood.

But the former LNP minister played his cards close to his chest when questioned about any political plans yesterday.

“It was a big move ( to the Gold Coast) over 18 months ago, but one that’s been good for the family and for our business,” Mr Crisafulli said.

“W e ’ v e made a lot of great friends and we’ve settled in b e a u t i f u l l y here within the northern Gold Coast community.” Political pundits say it is more likely that Mr Crisafulli is gunning for the existing seat of Broadwater, which he lives in, as the current embattled member struggles to hold on.

Broadwater MP Verity Barton has been plagued by controversy including a legal suit for bullying and traffic infringements that saw her banned from driving twice.

The redistribution would chop her out of the Broadwater electorate, with her office no longer in the boundary come the next state election.

Mr Crisafulli’s wife Tegan has been announced as the Gold Coast North Shore LNP branch vice- chairman and hosts monthly party meetings in the boardroom of the Sanctuary Cove Golf Club.

The family moved south in June 2015 after Mr Crisafulli lost his seat, along with Townsville’s two other LNP MPs, at the state election in January that year after just one term in government.

Mr Crisafulli has always denied speculation of a political return in North Queensland.
